On Father's Day weekend Jack got the privilege to meet his Aunt Lindsay and Aunt Becky. Since there really isn't much to do in Weslaco and it was the Fasano Family's weekend at the beach we decided to take Jack to the beach for this important introduction.
My dad and sisters flew in on Friday evening and Rocco picked them up at the airport and brought them to the beach. My mom and I took Jack straight to the condo so we could get him all set up and fed before their arrival. While my dad and sisters were on their way to the beach I received two text messages- one from Becky saying, "I get to hold him first," and one from my dad, "Grandparents get to hold him first." Now before they even left to come to the valley I told my dad to make sure and tell my sisters that there would be no arguing over the baby and an hour later I get text messages about who gets to hold him first. I was a good daughter and let my dad hold Jack first. Becky did give me a little look when I told her that my dad was going to get Jack first.
On Saturday, we all hung out and I even managed to go down and layout on the beach for 2 hours before I needed to come back up and feed Jack. My dad stayed up in the condo and watched him. When I left to go down to the beach he asked me what he should do with him... I said hold him or put him in his pack-n-play to sleep. So when I came back up my dad was still holding him in the same spot as when I left. He told me that he thought about putting him down, but decided he'd rather hold him the whole entire time. My dad has always loved babies, but since this is his first grand baby and its a boy, it makes it even more special for him to hold Jack. I really can't wait until Jack gets a little bit older and can play with my Dad. It will be awesome to watch.
Becky finally got brave on Saturday afternoon and decided she wanted to try and change Jack's diaper. She took him over to the changing pad and started taking off the old diaper and had the new one under it ready to go and next thing you know we hear this explosion sound, which resulted in Becky screaming, then I screamed, then Lindsay screamed and of course so did Jack. Jack had pooped all over the place! It was so funny! Of course this would happen to Becky... the most dramatic person in my family.
Lindsay has always been the calm one in our family and she is the one that likes to sleep the most. So she enjoyed holding Jack while he slept in her arms. She would giggle every now and then when he would toot in her arms. I am glad that both of my sisters were able to witness first hand that Jacks digestive and excretory systems work great!
Saturday night we all went to Scampi's for dinner and Jack got to come along. He did not make a peep the whole entire time. We had a great dinner and got to watch the sunset on the bay.
Sunday was Rocco's first Father's Day and my dad's 27th. We had a very relaxing morning at the beach with my family. We gave cards to my dad and Rocco. I felt bad because I didn't get a chance to get out and get them a gift, but I figured the blood, sweat and tears of giving birth to a son for Rocco and grandson for my dad was gift enough. Rocco went out the weekend before and bought himself a new grill so we are considering that his Father's Day gift. Rocco took my dad and sisters to the airport and we met him back at home. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and watching golf since that is what Rocco wanted to do for his first Father's Day.
I'll post the pictures soon. I have to get them from my mom's camera.

Honey, my water broke!!!
So I am a little behind at updating my blog since Jacob "Jack" Rocco Fasano decided to make his appearance on Monday, June, 7th 2010 at 5:32 a.m.. Here is the story:
On Sunday, June 6th Rocco and I went over to his Noni's house for dinner to celebrate Bette's (my mother-in-laws) birthday. After dinner we were sitting in Noni's living room hanging out and I got up to use the restroom and came right back to sit on the couch since I was on bed rest. Not even five minutes later there was a GUSH... I was like WTF was that??? Excuse my language, but that was the weirdest thing I had felt in my life that that moment. So I got up went back to the restroom and it just kept coming... I know this is too much information, but someday when I am old and Jack is old it might be fun to read this. When I came back out I must have had a funny look on my face because Bette asked me if everything was OK and I just looked at Rocco and said, "umm I think my water just broke... can we go home?" We were all a little concerned because I was only 35 weeks and 4 days.
We got home and I called Dr. Leal. Well, Dr. Leal was on his way back from out of town so I had to call and talk to the doctor covering for Dr. Leal. I knew Dr. Leal was supposed to be on his way back so I was keeping my fingers and legs crossed that he would make it in time for the delivery. After I got off the phone I jumped in the shower to shave my legs and other body parts that I won't mention. In the mean time Rocco was out in the garage hooking up the car seat. Good timing, right?? Chris Papacek came over to make sure we had the car seat base in nice and snug and luckily Chris is friends with Dr. Leal and text him that my water broke and we were on our way to the hospital. He told Chris that he was in Houston at the airport and would be there for the delivery! Thank God... I didn't want someone else to deliver my sweet baby!
When we got to the hospital the nurses checked to see if my water really broke, which it did, DUH! I don't think a pregnant lady would lie about her water breaking. At this point I was also 3cm dilated and had not had any contractions. I was then moved to my labor and delivery room. Once I was in my room I was able to get a hold of my mom and tell her the news since I had only been able to tell her through a text message at this point.
The nurses came in and asked me about a thousand questions and I gave them my birth plan, which surprised them because they don't receive too many of those down here in the Valley. Rocco and I took the Bradley Method natural childbirth classes so we didn't want to have any drugs or restrictions to the labor or delivery. The nurse only asked me once in the beginning if I wanted any pain medicine and I quickly said, "NO!" She was very nice and let me drink water, eat a granola bar and get up to use the restroom, which are usually against hospital protocols. My contractions finally started around 8 or 8:30 that evening. Rocco and I watched the end of the NHL game, the end of an NBA game, Old School and The Ringer all night to pass the time. While all this was going on my parents decided they couldn't wait and drove all night to be at the hospital for the birth of their first grandchild. My parents called when they got to Kingsville which is about an hour and half or so from our house and asked how I was doing. At this point I was 5cm dilated so we figured they could stop at our house and sleep for a while before they came to the hospital. They called again when they got about 20 minutes from our house and I was now at 9cm!! I went from 5cm to 9cm in an hour! During that last hour I was starting to wonder if I was going to be able to make it much longer without any pain medicine, but the nurse came in and said I was at 9cm so pain medicine was definitely out of the question at this point. Rocco and I had learned that during this "transition" phase uncertainty and doubt about being able to proceed without medication were feelings I would feel at this point so it all made sense to us. My parents arrived at the hospital at 5a.m and came by my room to say hi and see how I was doing. Rocco and I asked my mom to stay in the room for the delivery and she gladly did and my dad gladly went out to the waiting room.
Finally, Dr. Leal made his appearance after I had now been in labor for 11 hours! At this point I was also feeling the urge to push, which is called the Ferguson reflex (another thing we learned in our childbirth classes). Dr. Leal basically just came in and said hi and told the nurses to call him when I was ready to deliver the baby. I was like, "HELLO, where are you going? This kid is coming out NOW!!" So I started pushing and probably not even 5 minutes later he was back and probably 5 minutes after that my sweet baby, Jack was here! He immediately cried and peed all over Dr. Leal. When Dr. Leal put him on my belly he sneezed and coughed. Those were the best sounds I had ever heard. He was just perfect in my eyes and he instantaneously became the "new man" and "new love" in my life. They took him over to his side of the room where he was weighed, measured and checked out. Jack weighed in at 5 pounds and 4 ounces and was 18 & 1/2 inches long.
Since Jack came 5 weeks early and had a low birth weight (2 more ounces and he could have stayed in the regular nursery) he had to stay in the NICU to make sure he was eating good before he could come home. The hospital allowed me to stay an extra night since Jack had to stay. I only had to go home without him for one night. The next night (Thursday) Rocco and I had to "room in" with Jack in the NICU to make sure we were all comfortable with each other before they would discharge him. Friday morning Jack was discharged. What a relief!? My mom was with us the whole time and she got to drive Jack and I home while Rocco followed us in his truck. Once we got home, Jack slept for 4 hours straight.
What a miracle! Giving birth was an amazing experience and I am so thankful that we all made it through healthy. Rocco was an amazing coach and I definitely could not have done it without him right by my side. I thank God everyday for giving me such an amazing, loving and supportive husband and such a beautiful and sweet baby. We are truly blessed!

Hospital Stay # 2
On Wednesday this past week I went to my doctor for a check-up and like most visits to him, my blood pressure got a little high because I get myself all worked up and excited about having this baby. So they hooked me up to the monitors to check out his heart rate and to see if I was having any contractions. I was feeling relieved while I was on the monitors because I wasn't having any contractions and Jack's heart rate sounded great. So the nurse comes back in and checks my blood pressure again and it went down to normal, but when Dr. Leal came back in he tells me I am going back to the hospital to be checked for Pre-Eclampsia. WHAT!!!! I didn't show any symptoms of pre-eclampsia except for the high blood pressure. So I call Rocco and tell him to meet me back at the hospital. I had to have my mother-in-law take me to the hospital since Rocco will not let me drive anywhere since I am on bed rest.
So we get all checked into the hospital and in my room and the first thing they do is take my blood pressure and guess what????? It was already down to 114/67! I wanted to jump out of the bed and strangle my doctor for putting me in the hospital when I knew I was perfectly fine. He told me I had to stay for at least 24 hours to do a urine test. So for 24 hours I had to pour my pee into a container for them to test for protein at the end of the 24 hours since protein in the urine is a sign of pre-eclampsia. So we stay for our 24 hours and then it took almost 3 hours for the results to come back. The results come back and there was only 196mg of protein in my urine.... anything between 300 and 5,000 is considered pre-eclampsia. So I had a little bit, but they said for a pregnant woman that that was fine because of all the extra blood our bodies have to make. So home we went!
On the ride home I was starving. So the first thing Rocco suggests is Whataburger and I agreed. Yes, I was that hungry! Most of you know that I would never suggest or say yes to a fast food restaurant, but I was so hungry. I ate that burger so fast. I think I even impressed Rocco on how fast I inhaled that thing.
So we are home and resting. My doctor has me back on medicine to prevent contractions for the weekend because he is out of town. I have to go back to see him on Monday. I am guessing he will take me back off the medicine and we will just have to wait and see what happens. It is kind of exciting and nerve racking to think that maybe next week we will have a baby! I'll keep ya posted!

Weslaco Baby Shower
On Saturday, May 29th was my 2nd baby shower. It was hosted by two of my closest friends, Amanda Humphreys and Vicki Papacek and Vicki's mom, Linda Taormina. It was a beautiful shower. We had chicken salad croissant sandwiches, Apache dip, hummus dip for veggies and pita chips, pinwheel sandwiches, fruit and some awesome little petite fours. My mom and sisters came and one of my best friends from Houston, Jami. Rocco's mom (Bette) and sister (Jeana) came along with both of his grandmothers (Noni and Grandma), and his Aunt Shirley. The shower had a great turn out for it being Memorial Day weekend. We got some awesome gifts that included: the Chicco travel system, pack-n-play and high chair.
My sisters flew in on Wednesday before the shower to help me out with things around the house and run errands for me since I am on bed rest. First, I sent them to the HEB in Weslaco. I thought I would send them somewhere slightly easy on their first day in the Valley. They did a good job and they even gave me my change back! On Friday, I felt brave and sent them to the mall in McAllen to buy me nursing bra's from the Motherhood Maternity store. I told them what I wanted and that is exactly what I got! I must say my sisters impressed me... they didn't get lost and they didn't spend all my money. Becky only made a few comments about the people she saw at the store and the mall, which didn't surprise me one bit!
Then my parents came on Friday for the rest of the weekend. It was great having them all here for the shower and to help get baby Jack's room ready and all of his new accessories put together. After the shower my sisters were ready to work. They put everything together for us... the swing, the bouncer chair, mobile and even washed and folded Jack's clothes! Now, while the girls were doing all of these things it took my dad, Rocco and Colter (Jami's fiance) to put the pack-n-play together! It was quite a sight! It was very hard for me to just sit there and watch these 3 grown men struggle. Finally, they got it and it is now ready and in a our bedroom waiting for baby Jack's arrival. Since it was so hard to put together I am thinking we need to purchase another cheaper one for traveling or just to keep at my parents house.
On Saturday night after the shower, we took my family and Jami and Colter to the Elks Lodge for Steak Night! We figured it would be good entertainment for everyone even though it is mostly old people. Since it was steak night they had karaoke set up. Well, somehow they talked my mom and Becky into singing. So first they got up there and sang a Dixie Chicks song and then they got back up there again, with Lindsay and sang Respect. It was so funny and they provided good entertainment for the rest of the old folks at the Lodge.
Overall it was a great weekend spent with family and friends. I really wish we all lived closer together so we could have more of these fun filled weekends.
